TAPA (Technology Asset Protection Association) was founded in 1997 by original members Compaq, Intel, SunMicrosystems and Digital Equipment , as a result of their opinion that the transportation industry had not kept up to an acceptable standard with regard to security , with far too many instances of theft. Technology companies and associated business partners organized for the purpose of addressing a variety of security threats common to the technology industry.
In June of 2001, Yusen Air & Sea Service (USA) Inc., joined TAPA as an associate member.
Yusen Air & Sea Service USA, Inc., Chicago branch office has just been certified as TAPA A-Class, the highest category in TAPA certification, as of 7/18/03. Chicago office is the first one to be certified within the Yusen Group Companies.
By achieving the highest of three categories (A) of TAPA certification, Yusen Air & Sea Service (USA) is now committed to addressing security issues greater than ever. Moreover, Yusen USA is planning to obtain the same certification at all major branch offices.
Since September 11th , Yusen USA has been committed to improve security management by reinforcing compliance of all respective regulations and laws, by participating in various security programs, by achieving various certifications, and by conducting internal training sessions and audits.
Yusen has also purchased additional insurance coverage against terrorism. This ensures the protection against damage that is recognized as a terrorist act by US government.
In response to the events of September 11th 2001 , U.S. Customs began developing a new industry-wide security standard for protecting the supply chain against terrorism. Customs is actively seeking company participation in the program, now known as the Customs - Trade Partnership Against Terrorism or C-TPAT.
As part of this effort, Yusen Air & Sea Service (USA), Inc., became a member of C-TPAT in December 2002.
